PÃO POR DEUS OU DIA DAS BRUXAS * BREAD BY GOD OR HALLOWEEN

Antes de se ter adotado o halloween, festejava-se o Dia de Pão-por-Deus ou Dia do Bolinho. Neste dia as crianças saíam à rua e juntavam-se em pequenos grupos para pedir o Pão-por-Deus  ou o Bolinho de porta em porta. Recebiam romãs, maçãs, doces, bolachas, bolinhos, rebuçados, chocolates, castanhas, nozes e às vezes até dinheiro, que colocavam dentro dos seus sacos de pano, de retalhos ou de borlas. Ora aí está. Seja na aldeia ou na cidade, vestido de bruxa ou não, a pedir guloseimas ou o bolinho, alegria é a palavra de ordem por estes dias.

Before we adopted the halloween, we celebrat  the Day of Bread-by-God or cookie Day. On this day the children went out into the streets and gathered in small groups to ask for the bread-by-God  door to door. They received pomegranates, apples, sweets, biscuits, cookies, candies, chocolates, nuts, and sometimes even money, that they put inside of their cloth bags, patchwork bags or tassels bags. Well there is, whether you are in the village or in the city, witch dress or not, asking for treats or cookie, joy is the key word these days.
